School Council

An October 2024 School Council Meeting

What is School Council?

The School Council plays a vital role in shaping the vision and direction of our school. It serves as a collaborative forum where parents, staff, and community members work together to discuss important initiatives, share ideas, and provide input that helps guide decisions that affect our students' learning experiences. Your involvement in these discussions is invaluable, as it ensures that the voices and perspectives of our parent community are heard.

Whether you have been involved before or are considering attending for the first time, we encourage you to join us! Your participation strengthens our school and enhances the sense of community that makes our school so special.

School Council will have its first meeting for the 2022-23 school year on Tuesday, September 20th at 7:30 PM.

We will be setting priorities for the year which may include hot lunch, anti-bullying, school improvement, waste reduction, school supplies, library, and Bible curriculum. We will also be holding an election for whom will chair the council.  Come and bring your ideas on these topics (or others) and join in strengthening our school.

As an Alternative program within the Public Board, feel free to review our Current Operating Procedure, which has a few amendments from our Previous Operating Procedure

Accountability Pillar Surveys

Alberta Education invites you to play an important role in your child’s education through the Accountability Pillar Surveys. Every year the provincial government sends out surveys to teachers, students and parents as a way of gathering information on the quality of education provided by schools in the province. Teacher and student surveys are conducted online, parents are surveyed by mail.

To find out more information about the surveys this note from 2013 gives a good idea of what it is all about. Accountability Pillar Survey Letter to Parents.

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
