ECDP - Grade 9

Introduction

We are excited to partner with families to educate their children for life. Fort McMurray Christian School accepts students from all areas of Fort McMurray regardless of where they are on their journey of faith.

Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path…Psalm 119:105

FMCS is an ECDP-9 Interdenominational Christian Public Alternative School operating as an alternative program of the Fort McMurray Public School Division. Our curriculum meets Alberta Education guidelines. We use a Christian curriculum framework called 'Teaching for Transformation' that infuses Christian perspective, values, and worldview into our classrooms.

We are committed to training our children in the way they should go! (Proverbs 22:6)

We are affiliated with Prairie Centre for Christian Education, as well as the Association of Independent Schools and Colleges in Alberta (AISCA).

We are an alternative school within the public district. Here is our Partnership Agreement with the district.

Who we are and how we are different

The Fort McMurray Christian School, as a fully accredited school, follows Alberta curriculum standards. In all subject areas, God is acknowledged as the creator and sustainer of the world. Students will develop an understanding of this awesome reality and the way that this affects living in this world. Christian teachers integrate a Christian perspective using their professional background and training, as well as curriculum resources produced by Christian Schools International and other Christian publishers. These fully trained, Alberta certified teachers encourage students in their God-given responsibilities and abilities. The grade integrated classrooms provide opportunities for students to learn responsibility and cooperation, but also to develop a spirit of community. Library visits, multiple electives, worship arts, field trips (local, regional, and international), and assemblies enhance the students’ education. The low student-to-teacher ratio facilitates greater individual attention.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to equip all students with a Christ-centred education that fosters spiritual growth, academic excellence, and servant leadership, preparing them to fulfil their God-given potential to make a lasting impact in the world.

Vision Statement

The Fort McMurray Christian School Alternative Program is committed to achieving
academic excellence offering an alternative program from a Christian perspective in Fort McMurray.

Values

There is no neutral ground in the business of educating our children. All schools are based on a particular philosophy and promote certain values.

Fort McMurray Christian School is a testimony of God’s grace in our community.

  • It helps children stand in awe of God and His creation.
  • It explores the effects of sin and guides students toward Godly wisdom.
  • It allows them to respond in service to God and to others.

Christian Education The core of Christian education is the education of the heart as well as the mind.

Parents lay the foundations of the Christian life in their home, while the Christian school expands the children’s horizons, deepens their insight, improves their abilities and guides them along the path that leads to wisdom.

Christian education is a careful training of each dimension of the child – physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, social, aesthetic, and moral – with unity and consistency.

Purpose

Students attending Fort McMurray Christian School are encouraged to develop their
gifts and abilities in response to a divine call to a life of faith in accordance with the Vision
and Mission Statement of the school. The purpose of the school’s programming is to prepare students:

  1. with an education based on the Bible where the Christian perspective is integrated into every aspect of study
  2. to develop an understanding of their own relationship to God as well as their relationship to others and creation
  3. to provide an education which allows them to reach their potential academically, spiritually, emotionally, socially and physically
  4. to direct them in the development of Christ-like character, and,
  5. to prepare them to be of service in the local, national, and international community

In sum, we strive to have our students be responsive and productive in all that they do to the glory of God.
