Let Grow - November 2024 Update!
Check out the latest Let Grow update and pictures below!
Since the last update, our students have embraced their God-given creativity and independence through the Let Grow program, showcasing how they are "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14). Their projects included walking a family puppy for the first time, mastering the art of making cotton candy, and honing cooking skills by preparing chili for a church cook-off, mashed potatoes, homemade pizza, eggs, and other simple meals. Some students took on grocery shopping, making breakfast, and helping younger siblings get ready for school, while others explored creative endeavors like designing a sweater or trying out new workouts. These activities beautifully reflect our October focus of "Spreading Your Wings" and our mission to help students grow in confidence, capability, and faith.
Parents’ reflections on the Let Grow program highlight powerful themes of independence, trust, and the unique gifts of each child. They emphasize the importance of allowing children to try new tasks and take calculated risks, with appropriate supervision when needed, as part of their growth journey. Many parents shared how respecting a child’s pace, celebrating small successes, and embracing their potential reinforces the truth that each child is wonderfully created for a purpose. By raising expectations and modeling positive behaviors, parents have witnessed remarkable growth in their children’s confidence, abilities, and independence, underscoring the transformative power of this program in nurturing the gifts God has placed in each of them.
Here is a quote from Kole (Grade 8) and Nyah’s (Grade 5) mom, Mandy Serediak: "I think we can put boundaries on our children. If we let them try and make mistakes, they will learn from that faster. You'll be surprised how able our kids really are when we change our expectations of them."
And she is right! By giving children the space to try, fail, and try again, we are helping them discover their God-given potential and equipping them to navigate life with courage and wisdom. Let Grow has truly become a vehicle for our students to embrace the truth that they are fearfully and wonderfully made, ready to soar to new heights.
Elroi, a Grade 1 student, gained confidence and skills by making eggs and other simple meals. Her mom shared these words of encouragement: "Supporting my child through a Let Grow project helped me see their abilities in a new light. It’s important to give them space to take on tasks independently, even small ones. I learned that children often rise to the occasion when they’re trusted to handle things themselves. My tip for other parents is to be patient, celebrate the little achievements, and let your child engage at their own pace. It really boosts their confidence and skills."
Grade 3 student Annie Prosper took on a particularly meaningful Let Grow project, sharing: "My project for Let Grow is my hoodie. It's very special to me in two ways. Number one is that I designed and made it myself. The second is that the wool I used belonged to my great-grandmother, Prowse. She has passed away now and is in heaven. She was 87 years old when she passed away. So my Nan Smith gave me all her knitting wool. So I have made my project in memory of my Nan Prowse."
As we look ahead to November, we remain inspired by the ways our students are exploring their independence and creativity while living out the truth that they are fearfully and wonderfully made. We encourage all families to continue supporting their children in stepping out of their comfort zones and discovering the unique gifts God has placed within them. Together, let’s celebrate the growth, learning, and accomplishments that make our school community shine!
