John Dunn Presentation

John Dunn Presentation

Today we invited John Dunn to come speak to the grades 4-9 students about his expedition to Ellesmere Island.

Students learned about the animals, environment, and challenges of such a journey. They learned to pack 'light' and to focus on what they really need to survive the 96 days!

About John Dunn:

John Dunn is a wilderness traveller and photographer with a passion for the vast and rugged landscapes of the Canadian Arctic. Born and educated in England, John graduated in geology from London University and worked in mineral exploration in the Australian Outback. After moving to Calgary, he became a Canadian citizen and pursued his dream of exploring and photographing the Arctic.

John has organised and successfully completed over 20 arctic expeditions, totaling over 1100 days in the field. For his efforts in promoting awareness of Canada’s arctic geography John was made a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Not satisfied with some 12,500 km of sled-hauling, John has more plans for expeditions in Canada's northernmost region.

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
