My name is Ms. Candace Russell, and I’m from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. However, I’ve called Fort McMurray my home for the past 20 years. I’m a proud graduate of the University of Alberta, and I’m incredibly excited to join the Fort McMurray Christian School family and be part of such a welcoming, Christ-centered community.

This year, I have the joy of teaching the Grade 2/3 split class. I feel truly blessed to be here and look forward to walking this journey of faith and fellowship alongside our students, families, and staff.

As an educator, I believe in creating a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where each child feels valued, supported, and inspired to grow both academically and spiritually.

When I’m not in the classroom, you’ll likely find me spending time with my family, planning our next adventure, exploring a new corner of the world, or simply curling up with a great book and a good cup of coffee.

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
